Today, we do something a bit fun (hopefully). We recreate the rifle trials conducted by the West German Bundeswehr between 1957 and 1959 to select its next gewehr. These rifles were all chambered for the then new 7.62x51mm NATO round, often called .308 today.

For the Belgian FN FAL known as the G1, we have an original German kit assembled onto a Type I DSA forged receiver.
For the G2 Swiss SiG SG510-1, we have an original STGW.57 kit assembled onto a HCI receiver.
For the G3, we have a preban Spanish CETME Sport rifle imported by MARS.
And for the G4, we have Brownell’s new BR10A, which is a good clone of a late Cuban or early Sudanese contract Armalite AR-10.

These were the guns that the Germans tried out. As we all know, the G3 was the winner but in this video, we look at exactly why it was chosen. Plus its just a good excuse to play around with some great historical rifles too why not?
