Norma Pimentel, a religious sister of the Missionaries of Jesus, talks about her experience as the Executive Director of the Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley, the charitable arm of the Diocese of Brownsville.

Throughout the Rio Grande Valley, Sister Norma leads community efforts to provide aid during times of disaster and crisis. She spearheaded the response during the surge of Central Americans asylum seekers in 2014 and established the Humanitarian Respite Center in McAllen. She continues to lead relief efforts for those who cross the border today.
Known as the “Mother Teresa of South Texas”, Norma Pimentel gives migrant families a chance to catch their breath, along with a shower, meal, change of clothes, and travel assistance as they travel north into our country. She is the Executive Director of The Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley. She has been featured in Forbes, Fortune Magazine and had been named World’s Greatest Leaders.

One time she was addressed by Pope Francis and in his words, he said, “is it appropriate for the pope to say this? I love you all very much” This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
