Are you biased against others? Are you easily manipulated? Trevor Gibson explains how we all have unconscious biases and how easy it is to manipulate us on the basis of them. But, in an interesting twist, he uses examples of how our biases have been used to our detriment in music, film and social media before demonstrating the practical effects of such biases in the workplace, sex, and our lives in general. He finishes by offering tools to help you to recognise when your biases are being triggered and to protect yourself from being manipulated. Trevor Gibson is best known in Sarajevo for the now-famous photo of him and Nermin Divovic and for his role in bringing Bruce Dickinson to the city at the height of the war. Since leaving the region, he has followed diverse pursuits ranging from doctoral research in international dispute resolution at Oxford University to music production. In 2015 he won a Grammy for his work on „I Am Malala“, the story of Malala Yousafzai, and has spoken on a wide range of subjects from music production to unconscious bias and workplace discrimination. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
