Why can’t we stop noticing bad visual effects whenever we go to the movies, even though VFX technology has never been better and film budgets have never been bigger? YouTube star Wren Weichman is an engineer turned self-taught visual effects artist. As a crew member at Corridor, Wren makes cinema-quality videos chock full of eye-popping visual effects. Drawing on the experience of his movie fandom and professional career, Wren details the visual effects pipeline to shed light on how even well-intentioned effects can go wrong and why the very best effects may have the ones you never even noticed at all. As a crew member at Corridor, YouTube’s premier cinema quality channel, Wren Weichman has seen more than his fair share of visual effects. Since their inception, visual effects have constantly grown more prominent in film and other productions, to the point where we can’t stop notic- ing them. Backed by his years of real-world experience in the field, Wren will unpack how and why visual effects are ruining movies but also how the very best effects can be an art form that you may have never noticed. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
