Drawing inspiration from African culture and convention, this talk highlights the importance of conversation in society, and the power that restructuring that conversation can have in shaping the world around us.
This talk describes how it’s time that we all become more intelligent and intentional in the ways that we gauge the progress of our communities, of our countries and subsequently of our continents as well, by changing the conversation, and by redefining and rethinking what we call ‘progress’ by expanding our definition to include the things that we don’t see, these “hidden conversations,” more specifically the progression of our collective morale.
Highlighting the value of ethics, and emphasizing the importance of personal responsibility, 19 year old Rumbi describes how we can change not only the way that we think about progress, but how we should pursuit is as well, and subsequently how we can authentically, turn progress into power. Based in South Africa, Rumbi Vambe is a 19 year old Pan-African award winning writer, activist and young change maker who is catalyzing important dialogue, action and change on the African continent. As both a young South African and Zimbabwean, Rumbi spends her time redefining, challenging and addressing both African and global social mores, with the guiding principle that we all share in the responsibility of actively serving as architects of the world that we would like to see, particularly as young people. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
