China’s secret war
China arms the Sudanese government who in turn arm the Janjaweed militia, which have been killing, raping and looting civilians in Sudan’s region of Darfur.
After months investigating China’s covert arms trade, Hilary Anderson provides the first evidence of how China is arming Sudan’s killers, all for the sake of oil. A Panorama team follows a trail through Chad and Darfur, tracking down Chinese military trucks which, with mounted Chinese guns, had recently been used against civilians. Panorama also established that China had trained pilots to fly Chinese built and maintained fighter jets that have been used in recent attacks in a conflict which has now cost more than an estimated 300,000 lives.
